Turning off the informational firehose
The KM/LIS 5433 class (Design and Implementation of Web-Based Information Services) is finally winding down this week. Bloggers writing their summing-up posts for the semester, final web projects pretty much done, learning statements based on the variety of group projects involving our four different “special topic” books submitted, the names of various people who made extra efforts towards the successful overall functioning of the class nominated for “bonus points,” and now just a trickle of conversation on the discussion boards.
As usual, the class won’t miss me as much as I’ll miss them. I was looking forward to seeing some of my favorite people from previous classes, but there were also a number of folks who were new to me but who may indeed shape (and reshape) the future of the information environment here in Oklahoma. (And, what’s even more fascinating, they don’t even seem to know who they are!)
Turning off the informational firehose and closing the viritual learning library/laboratory doors is always sad for me, but this has been a pretty remarkable few months. Even people who were made quite uncomfortable by the freewheeling structure of this course managed to learn a great deal, I suspect. (And most picked up the rudiments of designing for the web somewhere along the way, which was supposed to be our main focus this semester, though we covered a bit more territory than that.) Are we ready for Library School 2.0? Stay tuned!
